Stuff I Dig

It’s Friday which is when I get to share with you, my fabulous readers, what I’ve been enjoying this week…..
.
(Disclaimer: The Woven Moments receives no kick backs for product endorsements. This really is just “stuff I dig.”)
.

The Tennis Partner

I fell in love with Abraham Verghese while reading Cutting For Stone.  It’s easily one of the best books I’ve read in the last 5 years.   While gushing about him one day, a co-worker asked me if I’d read his earlier book, The Tennis Partner.  I said I hadn’t and she kindly let me borrow it.
This book gets a score of “LOVE-LOVE”.
(I’ll be here all week.)
It wasn’t long before I was totally riveted.  The Tennis Partner is a beautiful story of the friendship between two men.  The protagonists meet as doctors and become friends and tennis partners.  It’s a powerful story about addiction, second chances, and most of all, true friendship.  I loved it.

Bocca Toscana

Those of you in the Richmond area need to know about this little gem.  Since I don’t eat flour, I only pick the cheese off of pizza. And yes, I realize that this is strange but we all have our quirks. So in order for me to love a pizza the cheese has to be really good.

I got a free Bocca Toscana pizza today at work.   Because I’m awesome.  (Or because everyone on my team got one too.  Either one.)  And, in the words of the ultra-talkative-and-somewhat-annoying Rachel Ray:

YUMMO!

Finding My Voice

Today is the end of my 3rd week on this blog; I’ve been posting every weekday.  It has been a super fun and exhilarating experience.  I have no idea if I’ll be able to keep this pace up but I’m going to give it my best shot.
.
In just a few short weeks, I’ve ‘met’ people from all over the country who have begun reading The Woven Moments.  It feels good to see the number of people who “like” my Facebook page going up every day.  I love to read the comments on the blog and see readers sharing my posts on FB.  All of that is good for the ego.
.
But the best part about writing every day is finding my voice.  Some days I’m funny, others I’m not.  I often don’t know what is going to come out until I sit down to write.  I keep a list of possible topics and I’m constantly looking for inspiration.  It’s a great way to live, actually.  And when I do finally get the kids to bed and sit down on my favorite spot on the couch, I try to follow the advice of my wonderful friend and mentor who says, ‘just write what burns.’
.
And I’m not done yet.

Sara Bareilles

Ever since Pandora played a couple of Sara Bareilles tunes for me a few weeks ago, I’ve been hooked.  She is haunting and genuine and quirky and awesome.  Her lyrics remind me of a time in my life when relationships felt heavy and dramatic.  Part of the reason I love her stuff is because it reminds me how far I’ve come.
.
I hesitate to embed a song here because her stuff is so different.  But my favorite ‘hurt so good’ song of hers has to be “Gravity.”  It’s addictive.  Enjoy.

And now it’s time for you to share with the class – what did YOU dig this week?
